Rep. Steil flush with cash as Dems eye his seat in more favorable district

From left, U.S. Rep. Bryan Steil (R-Janesville) is running for reelection against Democrat Pete Barca, who previously held the seat in the mid-1990s. The 1st Congressional District, in green, became friendlier to Democrats in the most recent round of redistricting.

Redistricting made the 1st Congressional District in southeastern Wisconsin more competitive, and the incumbent Republican is facing the first serious challenge of his young political career.

Rep. Bryan Steil (R-Janesville), left, is facing the first serious challenger in his career. Pete Barca, right, a veteran Democrat politician from Kenosha, held the seat in the 1st Congressional District, in green, for one term in the mid-1990s and served many years as Minority Leader in the Wisconsin State Assembly.
