Final-5 Voting has bipartisan support. But status quo thinking is entrenched. Here are the arguments on both sides.

State Rep. Ty Bodden, a Republican from Calumet County, has introduced a bill that would effectively ban Final-Five Voting in the state.

  1. The hard-right has good reason to oppose final-five and RCV. Such reforms seriously threaten the power of all extremes. And willingly giving up power is not exactly common among groups in any competitive arena, especially politics. Given the growing satisfaction nationally in these reforms, state Rep. Ty Bodden recognizes the necessity to act now before it’s too late. And if one has to use less-than-completely-accurate arguments (too confusing, long delays getting results), so be it.

  2. Alaska has a ballot measure to remove Rank Choice voting this coming election. Our state is hardly a poster child for Rank Choice.
