Number of Milwaukee police officers decreased more than 10% in past 5 years

The department has gone from nearly 1,900 officers in 2019 to about 1,600 today. The city says help is on the way.

The starting annual salary for a Milwaukee police officer is about $64,000.

Law enforcement officers in Wisconsin must complete 60 college credits within five years of starting in the job, but are not required to have a degree before they begin working.
