The Badger Project won third place in the Milwaukee Press Club’s Online division for Best Investigative Story or Series division earlier this month. The series of stories, Oath Keepers in Wisconsin, revealed active law enforcement officers in Wisconsin who had joined the radical Oath Keepers organization.
The Badger Project’s managing editor Peter Cameron reported on and wrote the stories. Several of the officers resigned from their law enforcement positions after the stories were posted.
The Wisconsin Examiner won gold in the category for a piece on the lack of safety at a Milwaukee religious high school. Madison365 won silver for a story on the revelation that an academic claiming to be Indigenous did not have any Indigenous heritage.
The Milwaukee Press Club announced the award winners on May 3rd during a ceremony at the Pfister Hotel in Milwaukee.
The club, founded in 1885, is the oldest operating press club in North America. Every year, it awards professional and collegiate media organizations in Wisconsin for their works in print, broadcast or posted online.

Last year, Cameron tied for gold, again in the Online division in the category of Best Investigative Story or Series, for his report on the record-low number of law enforcement officers in Wisconsin. In 2022, his story on Wisconsin officers who returned to duty after being fired or forced out from previous law enforcement jobs earned gold in the Best Public Service Story or Series category.
This year was The Badger Project’s third straight nomination from the Milwaukee Press Club.
