The De Pere Republican is trailing his Democratic opponent in fundraising by almost $1 million.

By Maggie Zale, THE BADGER PROJECT
Republican candidate Tony Wied reported raising $1.5 million through the final reporting period, which ended in mid-October, according to the Federal Election Commission. The Donald Trump-endorsed businessman, from De Pere is best known for previously owning the Green Bay-area gas station chain Dino Stop.
Wied faces Democratic opponent Kristin Lyerly, an OB/GYN physician also from De Pere, in the race for Wisconsin’s 8th Congressional District, which includes Door County, Green Bay and Appleton. Lyerly has raised nearly $1 million more than her Republican challenger and reported raising about $2.4 million, according to her last report to the Federal Election Commission before the election.

The Republican also reported having $250,000 in the bank for the final weeks of the campaign, while Lyerly is sitting on more than $580,000.
Wied gave his campaign a loan of $500,000, and he has received the maximum donation of $6,600 from several donors, including billionaire right-wing megadonor Richard Uihlein, co-founder of the packing supplies company ULINE.
Donations to candidates for federal offices from individuals are capped at $3,300 per election, so a person can give a candidate for Congress a max of $6,600 per election cycle, as it includes both a primary and a general. Political Action Committees that give to multiple candidates can donate up to $5,000 per election, for a total of $10,000 per election cycle.
