Sen. Ron Johnson says Trump can’t bully him off his deficit-reducing demands

The Oshkosh Republican said he will block the president’s debt-increasing “One Big Beautiful Bill” if it doesn’t cut federal spending.

  1. I don’t like Ron Johnson much, but in this narrow case, he does have a point. The Paul Ryan tax cuts to the wealthy are set to expire. He could let them expire [but he is not talking about that here]. He is talking about another Paul Ryan style tax cuts that would add greatly to the deficit. That has to be stopped.
    I totally oppose any cuts to Social Security, Medicare or Medicaid: Folks have paid into these programs.
    Curtailing them amounts to a breach of contract by the Government.
    If they go through with it, they will pay dearly at the ballot box.
    Republicans don’t seem to understand that people will keep on getting sick and getting old and the whole country pays for their misery, one way or another: more trips to the emergency room, more deaths, more days of work missed, less taxes levied as a result… we all pay for their misery.
    We are one of the very few countries that does not have Universal Healthcare in some way, shape or form. Why? because our legislators are less intelligent and competent than those of many poorer countries who manage to offer that to their people.
